Take a look at this renovation project we completed in Evanston, Illinois a few short years ago! Long home to a state unemployment office, this historic 1930 building underwent a massive makeover to become neighborhood hotspot Smylie Brothers Brewery!
Hospitality veterans Wrap Architecture spearheaded the changes, adding a second floor and patio space, making countless energy-efficient upgrades, and revealing the property’s signature bowstring truss roof structure previously hidden under a drop ceiling.
To ensure the small business could utilize the space at near-capacity in all four seasons, we provided six bifolding systems from LaCantina Doors: three sets to allow summer breezes to permeate the upper mezzanine level, and two connecting the first floor to the outdoor sidewalk cafe.
The result won a 2018 Small Project Award from AIA Chicago, and consistently tops the list of best beer gardens in the area. Next time you find yourself north of Chicago, be sure to stop by and have a drink for us!
