First Street Redevelopment – St. Charles, IL

Believe it or not, this bustling waterfront commercial district in St. Charles was a patchwork of empty lots less than a decade ago! The ultra-local redevelopment project has created a vibrant, walkable stretch of businesses and dining just across the Fox River from the town’s historic Main Street.

Working with Marshall Architects, we provided an array of masonry to clad each facade of the 4 new mixed-use structures built along First Street. The first building, containing a parking garage and a row of retail storefronts, is clad in several alternating brick colors from Brampton Brick‘s “Crossroad Series.” Halfway down the strip, you’ll also spot the most handsome Starbucks location ever, featuring our reclaimed “Sand Buff” Chicago common brick!
Across the street, we supplied more Brampton Brick to buildings two and three, anchored by Alter Beer (using “Greystone”) and Sterling Bank (featuring “Benton,” “Shelby,” and “Gibson” colors). Between those two, a positively gorgeous, custom 5-color red brick blend from Summit gives the corporate HQ for Ale Solutions a pleasing old-world look.
Bricklaying for each property has been the work of DTM Masonry, a St. Charles-based business just like the architecture firm behind the design! We love the use of local talent for this public-private collaboration, and serviced the job from our own suburban outpost down the river in Aurora, Illinois. We’re excited to see what’s next for this multi-phase project!
